Underpaid might not be the right word, as I might be paid appropriately for the work I do, but then I'm underemployed. $15/hour is not enough for a college grad, especially since they won't give me full time hours. If they made me full time and/or gave me a supervisor position appropriate for my experience, or if I got a job that actually used my skills and paid appropriately, I'd be making way more. I see no reason why I shouldn't be making at least $30K/year before taxes and other deductions.

I know, right? Then they cut you down to 12 hours a week and charge you union dues. At Costco the minimum they can give you is 24 and they're not even union. I've been treated better at Costco than I have at any union job. There are some good unions out there though. If you're gonna get into a trade, unions are a must. But in retail, unions are just fucking mafias.

i was in a trade lol. the unions are full of shit, just in it for political power. I agree with the idea of unionism, but all the ones I've seen are completely corrupt.
the bosses offered us 18% pay rise over 3 years. union said no, wanted 21%. GFC hit and we ended up getting like 7% or something. greedy demagogues

Excellent point. There's nothing wrong with the idea of collective bargaining, but when the unions are a separate entity from the employees, rather than being owned and operated by the employees, they try to extort the workers just as much, if not more, than the employer does. They're corrupt as hell. They want to cut hours and have the company hire as many people as possible because they get more union dues that way, and they're usually in bed with the company they're supposed to be bargaining with.
