"Enter the "Burned Furs", a splinter Furry group made up of people who have an obsession with fuzzy tiger head people but who are tired of being thought of as abnormal. Their stance is that it's perfectly okay to spend eight weeks and five hundred dollars on a homemade badger suit so that you can wear it in public, but if you have sex in it you're just weird. It's like a Trek fan saying "Well, sure, I'm fluent in Klingon, but that guy used it for his wedding ceremony! Let's all mock him!" The very fact that the Burned Furs had to organize makes one doubt their proposition that Furryfolk aren't primarily in it for the eros. Nobody has had to form a group to convince people that concert pianists aren't sexual deviants. If I came across an organization arguing that people who sell produce at Farmer's Markets aren't all actually fucking their vegetables, I'd certainly start examining my cauliflower more closely before cooking it."

But that's also somewhat voluntarily given away with the hype that comes with the territory. The only thing that I find really annoying by some furries is this persecution complex as if it's on par with centuries of racial oppression. That's an extreme but I'm sure there's probably many self-loathing furries out there.

That goddamn persecution complex. I think it's widespread in varying degrees. More with younger kids who just discovered the internet. A lot of furs can't comprehend why anyone would hate or be made uncomfortable by something they love so much, and that's very selfish; especially when they're shoving it down other people's throats. It's why I don't contribute much in furry threads. They think anyone who hates furries are automatically ignorant or belligerent and should not be taken seriously when there are plenty of reasons to hate the furry fandom as a whole as it is. -I've been there.
Initially I get a little confused when my friend Ray gets very upset by anything furry. But why is that her problem? It's mine, and it's my responsibility to be careful about my own furriness when I'm around her. Because she's my friend and I respect her.

It's a two way street. Sure, it's a person's responsibility to be considerate of others, but you also need to accept that there are a lot of people in the world that will do things you don't like.

But a lot of the community coddling and victim complex comes from buttautismal kewl2haet kids online, and the human brain is wired to assume that these kinds of attacks are personal and not simply for shits and giggles.

Which is a pretty good point. The majority of the internet communities I've seen that are invented purely to troll other furry communities are not because of an innate hatred of furries themselves, but the fact that many of them take it to such a deep and personal level that you may as well be pissing on their mother's grave. Most of these people I've spoken to can't even really identify a strong feeling towards even casual furries but this persecution complex alone is enough to constantly grief the shit out of them because of how quickly furry supporters/hardcore lifestyle enablers whiteknight this fact alone. Hijacking someone's furry chan is one thing, it's another to attend a furry convention with a firehose and start spraying them down like it was the next race riot.

Every subculture has a vocal minority that can't accept criticism, from technology to politics to creative media. I'd imagine a lot of the public fursuiter types don't give a damn about what bystanders think.
