Manual transmissions are the only good kind in my book. Semiautomatic shifting is only good for cars that are worth more than myself.

I hate automatic trans... drove it twice, first time almost flew threw the windshield cause I "hit the clutch" to shift...
Have fun with the car...

Manuals suck for city traffic, you will regret it if your area has a lot of traffic.

Pretty much. I've heard they're not so much in other countries.
Figures, america is fat and lazy.

Well I guess if you don't plan on going anywhere, ever, it won't be a problem. I would seriously not buy a manual if I lived in a high-traffic area, traffic jams while driving a manual are such a headache.

traffic WILL suck because I will encounter it eventually here in LA but I'll just wheel with it.

When you master manual it will give you more power and better MPG, you can drop down to 3rd gear for most acceleration when overtaking, learn engine breaking etc. Automatic isn't really driving compared to manual, automatic is just steering. Manual means you actually have to control the engine.

> Calling either transmission "bad".
Only the driver is bad. Each has its place, an auto is great if you drive in heavily congested areas. A manual is great if you drive with a trailer. Neither is better for gas mileage, the only thing that makes a difference is how much throttle is applied.

> I sucked at it but apparently did better than most people
Everyone should learn manuals, just in case one day for one reason or the other there is mass chaos like a huge comet or North Korea or Iran sends in a Missal and the only working cars near by are manual transmissions.

THIS. I learned to drive a manual when I was 19 and every single vehicle I've owned since has been manual. I like feeling connected to the automobile when I drive and you just don't get that with an automatic.

Welcome to the learning-manual-gearbox'd-cars club! Glad to have you as a member. Try not to have a panic attack when an angry SUV passes you as you repeatedly kill the engine.

What you know about Toyota's 3rd gear? Gotta love it.
