They're being promoted as "From the director of Alien, Blade Runner and Gladiator" without mentioning a name. If you don't know those films were directed by Ridley Scott then you probably didn't care for them so what's the point in using it as a marketing strategy? :/

I would wager that there are plenty of casual movie-goers who remember Alien and Gladiator, but probably can't tell you who directed them. Mentioning past successes from similar genres seems a safer bet than relying on the general public to be knowledgeable about a director's past films.

While true, I don't see why you would choose these films over... for example American Gangster or Black Hawk Down. Whatever. :o

Mentioning Alien certainly makes sense. Blade Runner shares a similar dark sci-fi vibe perhaps. Gladiator did pretty well, and I'm sure lots of people remember seeing it. I don't know why someone chose those particular films to mention, but it doesn't strike me as being odd to do so.

That being said they aren't more recent and they didn't do nearly as well as his other films in terms of financial successes... Anyway that is a tertiary point. I just want to know why they didn't bother mentioning the director's name if they were going to cite them.

Where haven't they mentioned the director? They show his name right at the beginning of every trailer released so far and it's on the movie poster too.
What a dumb thing to say. So do you suggest they just don't mention any of Scott's filmography instead because people might of not heard of those movies?
