Topic: Best console to mod?

Gamers!
I want to buy a console, ANY really. As long as there are some nice media centre mods/firmwares for it like XMBC and such.

Suggestions? XBOX1 has nice stuff, but can't play HD content very well. So that one is out of the question. Being able to play games is also a must, emulators would be a nice addon.

Semi-related question, but does anyone know what the mediaplayer capabilities of the xbox 360 are? Can it play media from USB & network shares?

This. It's far easier.

From what I've heard, console modding like that is a bit of a wasteland.

Also, fun fact: XMBC was originally created for the Xbox, but never got put onto it for some reason.
