Someone tried to convince me Wordpress is the most successful open source project in history, surpassing even GNU/Linux itself. How true do you supppse that is?

I think it's fair to say that the kernel is the most successful thing. IT's widely used in many many places, forked quite a lot. Used as base for any other things. And if it counts as open source project, programming languages themselves.

It's quite sad and even depressing that the linux kernel is the most successful open source project to date.
