The problem for me is mainly you get a gun for protection and it ends up being (1) really loud, (2) tends to kill people when you just want to disable them.
If you think swords are better though, the result of a sword fight usually is somebody dead or a body part cut off.
Yeah they're nice, but when the cops spot one the cops freak out worse than if you have a machine gun!

It's because the crossbow isn't a commonplace weapon anymore. If crossbows were reintegrated into society and more common, they wouldn't freak out.

Bullet wounds rarely kill if proper treatment is available and you don't shoot the other guy in the perfect spot.

I think a sword is more damaging than a knife.
People I've known who got shot even when the wound wasn't fatal, the result is they feel constantly sleepy and fatigued for months or years.

Well yeah. A bullet is nearly sterile as it is superheated from firing, but knives can be a biohazard.

I heard of a few chavs who own crossbows, but I've never heard of a anybody using a crossbow to rob a shop. It's always knives or swords.

It usually works, I think. Most cashiers aren't going to be thinking straight when some hoodie comes in waving a katana or whatever around.

There are a fair number of reports of stores succesfully being held up with those NES Zapper light guns. In retrospect it's petty scary how real they look, which is probably why they had to start making them a comically bright shade of orange.

Anyone ever read Snowcrash? The girl YT has a narration about guns being bad. They're really good at killing people but not always stopping them fast because they might have a chance to fight back. Meanwhile she is knocking people unconscious with futuristic weapons.
