The movie loses a lot in translation, but it was technically one of the greatest animated films of the 80s. Don't watch it for the story (which doesn't have the same meaning for Westerners as it does for the Japanese), watch it for the animation, which was honestly way ahead of its time. If you're into cyberpunk, you'll understand what I'm talking about.
