It was all going well up until the end of the mass when her son said a few words. He was getting all choked up on the altar trying to speak. I'm not usually one to be so emotional in public but I could feel the tears starting to well up.
The last time I cried was almost 4 years ago at my friends funeral, shit feels bad man.
That's because it's usually me ruining the moment.
I know this is going to sound weird but it got my thinking about why we cry at funerals. I don't think I was crying because I lost my aunt, I was crying because I could see and feel the emotional impact it had on my cousins.
I just can't get my cousins speech out of my head, any time I think of him on the altar I feel like crying.

I think that is beautiful. I do hope it will make you reconsider when other are similarly stricken. Your empathy does you great credit.

Dammit. I avoided this thread like the plague and finally decided to open it hoping it might be a joke. That sucks, bro.

But why am I feeling/not feeling it?
Why am I not upset that my aunt is dead?
I'm not happy that she's dead or anything, in fact I don't feel any emotion about her death what-so-ever.

> But why am I feeling/not feeling it?
I can't answer that. > Why am I not upset that my aunt is dead?
I don't know, but I felt the same way about my grandfather's death. > I'm not happy that she's dead or anything, in fact I don't feel any emotion about her death what-so-ever.
Were you close to her?

I was the same way when my grandad died. I felt like I really should be quite upset that he died, but I just... wasn't. Really, I was much more concerned with the effect it was having on my mum.
I'm guessing that you weren't especially close to your aunt? I suppose that you can't force grief.

I wasn't close to her, mainly because she was on the other side of the country. I saw here maybe 20 times in my whole life. Mam's still a bit shook over it, walking around the house in her PJs all day...

Same with me. I only saw my grandfather once a year, at best.
