Topic: Is there a less tedious way of installing Minecraft mods?

I am well aware of mod installers, but those only seem to work with mods where you only place .class files into the minecraft.jar, not mods where you have to do that AND place folders in particular locations inside of the .minecraft folder.
So is there a mod installer that can install ANY mod?

no because how would it know where it would place the files?

I dunno, I'm not a programmer and if that is the case, what is the point of mod installers?

@OP
If a mod installer like that were developed everybody would have to get on board with it, whether it be the community or the mod developers themselves. Someone has to write the script that tells the program where each file belongs for each mod. With the huge community around Minecraft you'd think a program like that would already exist, but it doesn't (as far as I know). :-/
Got any cool mods for 1.2.3?

if a mod is simply .class-files (which most are) it simply belongs in the root jar.

Sometimes you don't even need to do that if it requires modloader.
