So when it flops everyone who bought a computer with Windows 8 will either pay to upgrade to Windows 9 or buy a new computer. Just like Vista and 7. Instead of doing what they did with XP and just keep releasing service packs and other updates for free, they're gonna keep doing this.

Also they release a new Windows every four years regardless of succes of the previous ones. Obviously there was less support for Vista because nobody used it, allthough Vista also has two SPs and I think 7 too.

That's not true though. People buy new stuff if it has enough nice features, for example, everyone buying an Android right now is making sure it has 4.0, not because the previous ones where broken but because 4.0 has nice features and a better ui.

But still there's a big difference. Google actually backs their product. My original Asus Transformer upgraded itself to ICS over the air a few days ago. Cost to me: $0. MS has never done such a thing and probably never will. Pay to play is the only way to get upgraded. This is the MS way. They are working off a broken and outdated pricing model, and this is a big part of why MS is falling behind.

What are you even talking about? MS supported XP, 98, the operating systems people actually used forever. I don't get why people like you expect companies to put in thousands of hours of work and millions of dollars to give you something for free. That's a normal pricing model - they make something, and you buy it.

The start menu has been replaced by a "landing" page thats all really. You can boot into the desktop rather than start menu landing page thingy if you wish. Google it.

If you want to boot directly to the desktop you can due to the lack of a reghack make a desktop shortcut and put it in yoru startup folder.

Have a few facts:

I like the copy graphs! And it runs fine. It's just Windows 7 with some extras really. Yeah, it leaves behind a windows.old folder and reinstalls shit from usb/dvd. I tried them both. Disk cleanup will clean the .old folders. Overall it is pretty decent. I've added a "show desktop" short cut in my startup folder so metro doesn't really bug me much.

No it's not like saying that at all. Hardware is hardware. At the point of purchase it becomes my property. Software is licensed, it never becomes my property and therefore maintenance is the responsibility of the owner.

Googles releas schedule is a new version every 6 months, it's open source and free. But it's wrong in so many ways my head hurts. Many haven't even upgraded from Gingerbread to ICS (if I'm not mistaking Honeycomb was a tablet only version, so I'll leave it out) yet what's happening is that Jelly Beans is already on it's way. It's retarded that first manufacturers (drivers etc.) than carriers are responsible for delivering the updates (branding etc...) while it usually get's stuck at manufacturers part since they just release a new phone with the new version and dump the support for the old one.
It's such a clusterfuck I'd never jump on the Android train.

It's a clusterfuck because hardware makers are having it easy. What incentive to they have to roll out updates for old devices when the average consumer is willing to purchase a replacement device?

EDIT: also, it's been easy to follow up with buying phones since there was a 1 year gap between Gngerbread and ICS (like I sad, Honeycomb, Tablet only etc.) so a phone a year was normal (since most people just renew their contract and get a new one) but the release schedule is every 6 months like I said. We'll see how many will be buying a new phone every 6 months.
