Why do states in Mexico and South America have such fucked up shapes and funny looking borders? It's so disorganized. I can understand Asia being all clusterfucked cause a lot of those borders are thousands of years old, but these were drawn only a few hundred years ago. It's curios to me.

Because a lot of those borders were drawn by colonists from other countries, so they're more 'neat' and 'orderly' rather than being influenced by things like local conflict and culture. Basically they're artificial.
