Topic: What would the United States be like with Ron Paul as president?

Anonymous A started this discussion 14 years ago #17,383

Would it really be the answer to all of our problems with President Paul or just the same ol' crap as always?

Just remember that even if he won, all of congress would still hate him. So he wouldn't be able to positively do anything, he could only negatively do things. i.e. he couldn't get his legislation passed that would remove appellate jurisdiction from the supreme court for abortion, but he could veto budgets and stop wars.

The interviewer is the most despicable person I think I have ever heard in my life. Sometimes I wonder at the way Ron Paul phrases things, then I listen to famous Christians in the USA and I understand completely. Christianity in the USA is evil. I thought we were bad sometimes over here, but I seriously think that USA Christianity is worse than Islam. It ridiculously distorts the entire political process. The games politicians have to play to keep USA Christians on their side are pathetic.

I'm guessing he wouldn't get anything done and would keep vetoing everything until Congress finally just bypassed him to get a budget through. Yeah, watching the economic panic and resulting chaos as federal funding for just about anything suddenly became uncertain at best would be amusing if I weren't living here.

Yes. The President is commander in chief of the military, holds a veto power, and appoints numerous public officials. The president matters.

Yeah, all the competent republicans are saving themselves for the next election cycle where they won't have to run against an incumbent. Even with all the GOP crazies who jumped into the ring this time around, Paul has been trailing. That's a pity for him I suppose -- it was a good time to put his name out there, but once the economy starts to swing back up, his schtick will wear a little thin.

This.

Also, I've been a Ron Paul supporter since '07, but even I have to admit that he's clearly done. I'm really surprised at how much better he did, and I'm glad people are taking his ideas much more seriously, and he's started a great grassroots movement, but Santorum is beating him in the polls for fuck sake. America is clearly too retarded to be ready for a good President, when Santorum can beat Paul.

Broseph !!fxnDb+Ve4 double-posted this 14 years ago, 3 minutes later, 4 days after the original post[^] [v] #294,832

I'll still vote for Paul in my state's primary on principle, but right now it's pretty clear that Romney is going to be the nominee. I just hope that Romney will offer Paul a position as VP and not one of the other slimeballs. I'll vote for Romney in the general election as long as Santorum is not his running mate.

I can't laugh at that? Gingrich hasn't been relevant since the Clinton-era and is being blasted in the press for not being "conservative enough" for the GOP. Romney is a 2008 also-ran who won't get much support from the bible belt but wants to pretend otherwise. Saying that "Mitt the Millionaire Mormon" and Mr. "Open Marriage" are the "bread and butter" of the Republican Party is pretty funny.

First of all, where did you hear that and what are you basing that on? Second, he hasn't proposed a budget yet, so how can anyone say that? He has proposed ideas, and all his fiscal ideas involve cutting the budget. He wants to pass a law that would prevent spending from exceeding 20% of GDP. Third, 10 years after spending 4-8 years in office? That's impressive. Vote for Romney: He can manipulate time.

Here is a relevant article. Google it and find out, the US$2T figure may come from Obama's pricings of GOP promises, I'm not sure. The order of fiscal conservatism in the GOP is Paul > Romney > Santorum > Gingrich

You seem to confusing his platitudes with his actual proposed policies. His rhetoric is great, but he does not actually practically follow that.

I don't see what you don't understand about the 10 year figure. It is 2 years longer than 8 years, 6 years longer than 4 years.
