I'm torn between the Asus Transformer Prime and the Samsung Galaxy tab. It seems the Asus is a bit more money for the same specsand I doubt I'd ever buy the dock as a wireless keyboard seems more sensible to me. So I guess my question is: is the Samsung good enough?

There's a pretty big difference in the processors and rear camera, I suppose. But in operation they feel the same to me. Of course, I've only ever browsed the internet on these things. I'm not sure what else tablets would be useful for.

A friend of mine has a tablet with a keyboard attached to it, which you can slide up and it's a bit like a laptop with the keyboard out. The thing is pretty awesome, and if you consider using a tablet for any kind of note taking, that's definitely the way to go.

by the way op, there are some new versions of the transformer prime coming; a cheaper one with slightly worse specs (mainly trivial stuff) and a more expensive one with better specs and apparently a 1920x1200 screen

I kinda wanna get the Samsung Galaxy Note. It's a smartphone with 5.something-inch screen. It's like a phone/mini-tablet. Makes more sense to me since I don't want to carry around a phone and tablet. I like the idea of a keyboard though.

The transformer is really nice since you have the dock for home use and the touchscreen for road use. On screen keyboards are fine for light work, but just terrible for long periods of use.

It's too hard to hold in one hand and work buttons with the thumb. Tablets can be bigger mainly because they are not phones.

I only had the screen facing out for illustrative purposes. Good point about it being harder to use with one hand, but I prefer using two hands anyway. I could still probably do a few things with one hand, like change a song or send a text.

I do recommend it as a tablet, because I think most people will agree that it's dumb to carry around both a tablet and a smart phone. If you own both a tablet and smart phone, you're going to find yourself using one much more than the other. I think most people will get either a tablet and a basic phone just for texts and calls, or they will just get a smart phone. I think the Note is a good phone for people who are looking to get a tablet, but also want to have a smart phone and realize it's impractical to own both.
