The Pokemon board was probably to keep the rest of /v/ from bitching. /mlp/ caters to a subculture that he and the staff explicitly disapprove of.

I can understand /co/, but why would he care about /b/ bitching? It's /b/. The point is that you can post whatever the fuck you want within legal boundaries, and he knows that trying to change that just invokes the forbidden fruit effect.
Also, they have outright banned people for posting ponyshit IIRC, even if it was in the proper board.

Yeah, there were one or two purges, but the first one at least was halted by moot himself telling the mods to lay off.
I can't see him doing something like that to such a large chuck of his userbase. Only time will tell I guess.
