Bit early for starters, no?

Protip: starting your starters early actually won't produce significantly more food it just drags out the life of the plant leaving it more vulnerable to disease, pests etc.

Unless you live in some weird climate where this isn't early for starters.

You might want to put the different varieties of peppers in separate corners of your garden. Otherwise they'll cross-pollinate and you will get neither sweet nor hot peppers.

@322,828 (Z-9)
I haven't tried it, but I would say to do it in a controlled fashion. I don't think just leaving two peppers in a room and letting nature take its course is a good choice because they might not be a good mix, might not be pollinated right, etc. I suspect the right way would involve swabbing the flowers and transferring the pollen manually so that all of the flowers of one plant receive a prescribed dose of pollen from the other plant.
@previous (Z-7)
NP. I would also advise you to get larger pots for the next transplant if possible, so as to minimize the number of transplants in the future. Each transplant stresses the plant, after all.

Used to use MG years ago and it does very well. Went organic because it's much harder to overfert (bad habit of mine). The key to a decent MG grow is to introduce the fert gradually, building up dosage until you find the best response from your plants. That, and a good flush before harvest.

@331,754 (Z-7)
Mole de Olla (Mole cooked in a pot) – 6 servings (Note: this mole is a cross between a soup and a stew)
3 pounds Mole with bones cut into chunks
2 quarts water
2 teaspoons salt, or to taste
A comal or griddle
4 chiles anchos
4 chiles pasilla
A blender
1 cup tomates verdes, drained
½ medium onion
2 cloves garlic, peeled
1 pinch of cumin seeds or dried cumin
A small frying pan
3 tablespoons peanut or safflower oil
½ pound zucchini squash (2 medium)
¼ pound green beans
1 large ear of corn (or frozen corn kernels, thawed)
1 small chayote (1/2 pound)
3 small potatoes (1/2 pound)
3 sprigs epazote for garnish
Salt as necessary

Cut Mole into serving pieces.. Cover them with the water, add the salt and bring to a boil. Lower the flame and simmer the meat, uncovered, until it is tender – about 2 Hours
Meanwhile prepare the chilies. Heat the comal (or griddle or, if using fresh chiles, roast them over a low flame) and toast the chilies well, turning them frequently so they do not burn. When they are cool enough to handle, remove the seeds and veins – do not soak them – and put them into the blender. Blend the chilies with the rest of the ingredients until smooth.

Heat the oil and fry the sauce for about 5 minutes. Add it to the meat in the pan.

Clean and trim the squash and cut them into halves, then into fours lengthwise. Trim the beans and cut them into halves. Cut the corn into 6 pieces (or thaw corn kernels and add a few handfuls to the mix). Cut the chayote open and remove the core, then cut into ¼-inch wedges. Skin the potatoes and cut them into cubes. (Note: I don’t know that the chayote added much in the way of flavor to the dish so if you can’t find it, don’t stress).

When the meat is tender, add the vegetables and cook the mole slowly, uncovered, for about 30 minutes or until the vegetables are cooked. Add the epazote about 5 minutes before the mole is ready, and add salt as necessary.

Serve in large, deep coup bowls, with hot tortillas, wedges of lime and finely chopped onion on the side.

If you can find inexpensive mulch, that helps decrease the water loss of a garden. If you water deeply, that decreases the frequency you need to water and produces stronger root systems that are more disease-resistant.

Those two techniques can make manual watering easier, but we are in very different climates so I’m not wholly sure.

For vegetables, check underneath the leaves at least once a week. Remove and squish any bugs or eggs you find, including caterpillars. If there’s a lot of pest damage, check more frequently. The eggs are small, so look closely.

Don’t mess with any spiders or praying mantis, as they’re good! They eat pest bugs.

If you have bunnies or rodents eating your crops, sprinkle used cat litter around the edge of the garden. The urine smell scares them away.

It’s easy to water excessively. Look up water requirements for various plants. Consider your local university extension office as a great resource for information that is well tested.
