its the exact opposite of Vista.
Vista was a good step forward in features, yet ten steps back in resource usage.
Windows 8 is terrific on resource usage, but they're removing any remotely useful thing that was in Win7 for the sake of tablets no one will buy

I meant vista = disaster.
Personally I expect tablets to only get more popular as they become cheaper, more powerful and capable. Windows envisions a seamless experience between cellphone, tablet and computer. Which is a nice idea really, but people still buy computers for what they can do that a tablet can't. If Windows forgets that, they are only fucking themselves.

People didn't suddenly forsake home stereo systems just because they could get a Walkman. I think Microsoft will shoot itself in the foot if it suddenly ignores all the Windows users who are used to sitting down at their desktops, at work or at home, to bang out code or do some write or fill out spreadsheets or play games. Most of these people aren't looking for computing "on the go" solutions and are quite happy with their desktops. Microsoft would certainly be wise to make a play for some of the tablet market, but it would be wise to do that without alienating their already satisfied users.

Because Vista taught them that instead of releasing service packs for free, they should just release new OSes as often as possible to make more money. They're basically adopting Apple's model. They'll force all vendors to switch over to Windows 8, then when it flops, all current Windows 8 users will either buy a new computer with Windows 9 or pay to upgrade to Windows 9.
