There are Christians that hate the homosexual lifestyle but are not homophobic, and there are atheists who support gay rights but are homophobic. You're assuming that all homophobia stems from Christian bigotry, when in fact many people find themselves uncomfortable around gays for many different reasons. None of them are very good reasons, but they're there.

If they honestly hold to thier phillosophical rational-centric dogma which says you only go around once and that's that, then invariably they give in to curiosity in living this belief over time. No, I'm not assuming they all have the same lifestyle. And yes, there are some Christians who are fine with gays, as long as they do not follow a gay lifestyle. Not all Christians believe homosexuality is a choice, and the ones who do actually believe it's a choice don't believe you're gay if you're not making "gay choices". Think about it. It's like the don't ask don't tell we had in the military. The Catholic church even allows gays priests, they just can't be open about it or follow a gay lifestyle, which is fine since Catholic priests aren't supposed to have any sexual lifestyle.

oh you mean that they aren't okay with people having gay sex? it is homophobic because consenting adults have the right to do what they will with their own bodies. discriminating against someone because you find them creepy is homophobia. as for the don't ask don't tell issue, that means that soldiers shouldn't be able to identify as being straight either because you aren't supposed to have sex while enlisted.
