Everyone does it. No one actually has the time or the patience to actually read and understand all the legal jargon in a license agreement, so you just scroll down and click "I agree." You have some idea to what you're agreeing to. All those license agreements pretty much say the same thing, or so you assume. You assume that everything they put in the license agreement must be legal, if not, you'll be able to challenge it, and if anything in the agreement were really that harmful you assume that someone would have found it and made a big fuss about it. Pretty safe assumptions, but you never know. The fact is, the lawyers that draft those damn things could easily make them much clearer and easier to understand. They make them as long and as complicated as possible to try to deter you from actually reading it. They even put as much text in all caps as possible, because they know that it takes longer to read text that is in all caps. Not only does this make it harder for you to understand, it makes it harder for judges and other lawyers to understand as well, which makes it easier for the lawyers who wrote it to muddy the waters in the court room.
Lawyers and lobbyists are using the exact same tactics on legislators. For example, since Obama went into office, he has passed over 80,000 pages of new economic regulations. Do you think anyone has actually read all 80,000 pages? Even the people whose jobs are to read through all that and then debrief the President and legislators could not possibly read all that and effectively summarize it. No one actually reads any of the god damn bills they're voting on. They really just go by whatever the lawyers and lobbyists tell them is in the bill. In other words, they basically just scroll down and click "I Agree" and vote based on what will make them the most money and get them re-elected. Lawyers and lobbyists are essentially running this country (no surprise there) by overwhelming our legislators with more legal jargon than they can possibly handle.
All that shit about indefinite detention? That's just the shit they we actually catch and complain about, and it still passes. How much illegal bullshit is hidden in the millions of pages of legislation that no one actually has any time to read? Take all this SOPA/PIPA crap. You know what their plan is? They're gonna take it and shove it all inside another internet bill designed to supposedly protect children from pedophiles. Even if a few senators and congressmen realize what's going on, call them out on it, and say that they won't vote for it unless all the SOPA/PIPA crap is removed, guess what? They'll be ridiculed for being soft on pedophiles and not taking enough action to protect our children. Basically, vote for SOPA/PIPA or next election cycle we'll tell all your constituents that you want children to be raped. Politics as usual. What's it going to take to put a real end to all this?
