A 23-year-old Iraq War veteran has been charged with the stabbing deaths of four homeless men in a rampage that terrorized Southern California for weeks, prosecutors said Tuesday.

No decision had been made about whether prosecutors will seek the death penalty against former Marine Itzcoatl (its-KWAH-tel) Ocampo, authorities said.

Each victim was stabbed dozens of times, including one who had more than 60 wounds, said Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas at a news conference announcing the charges.

The last victim was targeted because his photograph appeared in a Los Angeles Times article about police warning homeless people to be careful, Rackauckas said.

The charges include special allegations of multiple murders and lying in wait and use of a deadly weapon. The minimum sentence if convicted is life in prison without parole.

Ocampo's family said he was a troubled man when he returned from Iraq. Ocampo's own father is also homeless.

i think he was gonna kill his dad. all the victims were males 40-60.

Just days before his arrest, Itzcoatl Ocampo visited his father, warning him of the danger of being on the streets and showing him a picture of one of the victims.

"He was very worried about me," the father said. "I told him, 'Don't worry. I'm a survivor. Nothing will happen to me.'"

uh huh, until he gives you an afghani necktie.

Police arrested Ocampo when bystanders chased him down after a 64-year-old man was stabbed to death outside a fast-food restaurant in Anaheim, about 26 miles southeast of Los Angeles.

I feel bad for Ocampo and the victims. I agree that it was a cry for help. Iraq clearly left this guy very disturbed. I feel bad for all the veterans who become mentally twisted like this. I also feel terrible for his dad.

Oh Yahoo and your lack of grammar. Was the veteran on a rampage or were the four homeless men on a rampage?

Typical. MSM seems to have almost no regard for proper grammar anymore. You think one missing comma is bad? I can't stand all the split infinitives and all the other shit they get away with. I blame colleges for not properly preparing students for real world, which is one reason why so many college graduates are unemployable.

This. I imagine that he'd get violent if they didn't like his EP.
