What's the point in these now? SOPA has been shelved.

They're going to revise it and re-introduce it in February and basically just try to keep it low-key like all the other bullshit that manages to get passed somehow. Also, they'll probably just take it all and shove it into a bill to protect children from pedophiles on the internet and tell legislators that if they don't vote for it their constituents will think they want children to be raped.

It's funny because I could see this happening.

It's funny because that's exactly what's gonna happen. It happens all the god damn time. They just put whatever the fuck they want in bills that no one will dare oppose.

Yeah, Lamar Smith seems to have a fire under his ass to get this through. I'm guessing he will pack it with it even more insane shit and then try to tell everyone the revised bill is some great "compromise" he has come up with. I don't know if he'll succeed, but if not, I'm sure pieces of SOPA will start turning up in other bills designed to "protect online businesses" and "keep children safe" and all the usual bullshit.
