Topic: Forum, I went to the doctor today.

And she said I have high blood pressure. Like, high enough to be clinically significant. This worries me, because a lot of my relatives have died young from heart disease. What should I do to lower it?

Did a nurse take your blood pressure or was it a doctor? Occasionally nurses use the wrong gauges... I've had one that was meant for children used on me and I went to another doctor and they read it completely different. They claimed it was high when it really wasn't.

It was a doctor, and the cuff was marked "adult size" so I think the reading was correct.

Make a small incision through any vein you like and let yourself drain for a while until you're confident your blood pressure is low enough again, then apply pressure to the wound and wait for it to heal up.

One thing that will help is to stop exercising immediately as this only raises your blood pressure. Immediately switch to a diet made up entirely of cheeseburgers and gin, and take up smoking as it been proven to have a relaxing effect.

It also helps to be 37 and live with your mother.

I might also add that I was visiting the doctor for a sore throat and a cough, and then she started complaining about the blood pressure. This has happened every time I visit the doctor, and I always just figured it was a one-off but this has got me worried.

I've also heard this is true, but so far we have only case studies to support this claim.

Good thinking, but do I use a rusty boxcutter or a dirty steak knife?

I'd use something small, sharp and sterilized.

I have high blood pressure. Doctor said it was quite significant for someone as young as me. We monitored it for a year or so but then he had no choice but to subscribe me medication for it.
