Okay, yes, I know Bruce Campbell's character's full name in the three Evil Dead movies was in fact Ashley, but I couldn't think of a better way to indicate this news: The protagonist of the Evil Dead remake will be a female girl! More specifically, the protagonist of the Evil Dead remake will be Phil Collins' daughter Lily, if producers Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert have their way.
Okay, so let's break this down: First of all, I'm not upset, because everyone was very up front about the Evil Dead remake not starring the original Ash or an Ash-like character. And since Ash's defining characteristic was his masculine bravado/idiocy, well, having a female lead is a good, solid way to set this remake apart from the original. Plus, Sam Raimi's Drag Me to Hell starred a female lead, and that certainly didn't skimp on the horror/insanity. My problem is the same one I had before: If there's no Ash, what will the Evil Dead remake do to set itself apart from all the other horror flicks? Because "casting Phil Collins' daughter" is not an appropriate answer. And more importantly, who the hell wants to see an Evil Dead movie without Ash in it? Thanks to everyone who sent this in.

Well Bruce has been making cameos like this in Sam Raimi's later movies, so it doesn't come as a huge surprise... It's just very underwhelming.

I am moreso fearing the onslaught of retardation from people who will find this, have never heard of the originals, then defend the remake to the death. This happened when they remade Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street.

What I mean is the new audience of fans who are oblivious to the original films. As in those who say originals are boring and cheesy and the new films are always better because they're done up with FX and high production values.
