And I just learned (probably with the rest of the general population) that I Am Legend is based on a book.

That's actually something I already knew. Never read it though. I wonder if it has Marley references through out the book also? I love that the only CD he played in the movie was Bob Marley and the Wailers' Legend(s?)

I've read the book, it's gooood.
They're more or less vampires I think and in the book Neville is more or less going through each legend about vampires (cross, stake etc) and coming up with scientific theory's as to why they would have started. It's pretty cool.
Films good too, although it suprised me how different it is to the book.

Yeah, from what I've gotten from the movie, they burn in the sun, but they developed a 'caste' system amongst themselves (towards the end) it wasn't implied that they drank blood exclusively, rather that they would devour the person if they could. The disease was transferable by a bite, which holds more for zombies rather than vampires (traditionally its just a bite, but there are variations on the mythos that include it being necessary for the vampire to drain almost all their blood and force them to drink from the vampire's vein)
