There is an infinite amount of big bangs and big crunches. You know what the big bang is, but the big crunch is the end of the universe, where the universe collapses in on itself, reversing time as well. This causes an infinite amount of big bangs and big crunches (big bounce), to be possible. You know deja vu? Well, that is mind over matter working for you. It is usually before a big decision. If you choose the right path, maybe you can change the universe.

That'd work, sure. If' the universe ended in a crunch.
The prevalent theory at the moment is that everything will actually expand and everything will slowly die over time until there is nothing left.
