Muslim women who wear the niqab and other face-covering garments will now have to lift or remove their veils while they take the oath of Canadian citizenship in front of a room full of people.
“This is not simply a practical measure. It is a matter of deep principle that goes to the heart of our identity and our values of openness and equality,†Immigration Minister Jason Kenney said Monday as he announced the changes in Montreal.
“The citizenship oath is a quintessentially public act. It is a public declaration that you are joining the Canadian family and it must be taken freely and openly.â€
The new rules require, effective immediately, anyone wishing to become a Canadian citizen to show their faces at public ceremonies as they swear the oath of citizenship, which means that Muslim women wearing a niqab or burka must remove them or else remain permanent residents.
I don't understand why this is a problem for anyone.

Jesus Christ, they're determined to make a big deal out of every minor thing.

I imagine the liberal diversity weenie types are more upset than any actual Muslims are. When Muslims get mad, they don't whine about it, they just blow shit up.

You have to hand it to them, at least they get shit done.

Because they're treated like shit in their communities. Not because they have to show their faces, but definitely because they have to hide their faces in the first place.

The liberal types tend to express their anger in more passive-aggressive ways.

So what exactly is the problem? You come into a country that gives you a job that pays the bills, provides health insurance, gives your kids education... and you don't wanna adopt to their tradition/culture? Kindly GTFO and go back to your country.
I hate sand niggers around Europe that get away with the most ridiculous shit and get massive benefits just cause they are who they are, sand niggers. If you wanna behave like you're at home and expect to be treated like you're at home... well I have a crazy idea, go to your home.
Don't get me wrong, I met a shitload of nice muslims, and would do anything for them... but some are just delusional nutjobs.

This reminds me of when Sikhs over here were complaining about about having to take their turbans off when they were doing riot police training.
I don't see why it's a big deal really. It's only for a short amount of time.

I'm talking about muslims in Canada generally ITT, not just them taking your jobs (not mine lol) cause that's what this thread is about... but it's the same for anyone...
If I go to work to Dubai (currently a possibility) I don't expect to get served food in a public place when it's Ramadan... even tho it's a normal thing here in Croatia, back in Slovenia or Germany for that matter.. everywhere I lived, it's normal... yet I ain't delusional and respect their culture and am ready to show respect...

Raghead cultures are fundamentally heterosexist and as such demand to be destoryed. The world is facing a global population crisis here. We can't have them popping out a dozen kids each.

Yeah, I think it's reasonable to request things like this for a particular purpose, and temporarily. But a full ban on religious symbols is too much imo.
@267,668 (TheSheep !kJ.A4PF7.k)
Fair enough--Muslim societies aren't all too tolerant themselves, but not sure that's a reason to go overboard with the "assimilate or die" idea. Cultural identity is important to people, it just has to be somewhat flexible imo.

this is strictly a security measure. if we were to allow this everyone should be able to cover their faces for court hearings and identifying photographs.

Cultural identity is important, apparently in Canada:
> It is a matter of deep principle that goes to the heart of our identity and our values of openness and equality
So don't expect a whole nation to ignore their identity, just so you could keep yours. After all, you are the one joining them.

This makes me wonder how male-to-females are treated in the middle east.
Yes, sex changes are legal there and they even encourage homosexuals to get them.

Sure, but isn't tolerance pretty basic to Canadians' identity? More so than some rigid idea of what a Canadian "looks" like? Like I said, I think a temporary request like this is perfectly reasonable, but you can't expect people to just lose every aspect of their identity when they move somewhere else.

Many people do, and become very aggressive when told to do otherwise.

We can expect them not to move. Muslim culture is repulsive. And liberals are hypocrites when they pretend otberwise.
