Topic: Hooked an Ubuntu box up to my Living Room TV.

Holy shit, it's fucking great guys. I'm watching HDTV though a transparent Chromium window while I'm typing this. I enabled the Opacity plugin in Compiz, and wow. I can read MC and watch TV at the same time. I can pause live TV ans schedule recordings. It's a simple matter of changing the focus of my eyes. It's totally amazing that it works as well as it does.

Whatever man. This shit is fucking awesome. I'll admit I had to tweak some shit to get it this hot and sexy, and that sort of thing is not for everyone. I wouldn't have anything else right now though. Feature-wise, everything else is second rate to me now.

did you use Mythbuntu?

No this is full Ubuntu 11.10. Installed and updated. Then I pulled CompizConfig, as well as MythTV front- and backends from the repos. Enabled opacity in Compiz and mapped out key commands for increase and decrease opacity.

I'm using and HDHomeRun dual tuner. It connects by Ethernet, so it's no bullshit as far as driver and setup goes.

does it play skyrim?

Skyrim has a Gold rating on WineHQ, meaning it can be run on linux under WINE.

since OPs box is powerful enough to do fancy Compiz stuff while playing full screen high definition video, my guess is yes, it can run Skyrim.
