While I have done my (small) part in attempting to get this bill to die in the water, I honestly think it might be a good idea for it to pass. I'd love to see it go through, cause absolutely fucking havoc, and have the SCOTUS deem it wholly unconstitutional later, just to get the valuable precedent it would set. It would make it significantly harder to try anything this egregious again for a rather long time.
Assuming anyone rich enough actually tries to get it into the courts in the first place. Can't always count on that.

I think the vote of the tech-savvy left/impoverished minorities is already more-or-less guaranteed to Obama. Every single Republican that has a chance in hell of getting the GOP nomination right now is a straight-up Disney villain. Who the hell else are they going to vote for?

Ron Paul is not going to win next election. Depending on how much the Bill of Rights continues to be tread on, I can't quite feel comfortable saying that he is never going to become president, but he has no chance of it occurring next year. At best, he'll serve as a spoiler to prevent the actual GOP candidate from getting into office. Obama has already proven himself to be a spineless cretin, pushed around at the whim of whomever happens to be the speaker of the house at that moment. Keeping Obama in, towards the end of keeping Newt out, and campaigning for better Congresspeople seems like it would be a more realistic solution.

Ron Paul has always, unfortunately, come across as far too honest to game public opinion like that. I don't agree with the libertarian ideals, but I have mad respect for the guy on that front. Of course, it also means that he's an honest politician, which ensures that he'll basically never be in power.

I think the first time he tried getting into politics he acted like himself but he was derided as an over-educated "Yale boy" who wasn't from the area and so couldn't represent it well. Then he learned that people just want a humble "Just like me!" politician. Every time he fucked up it was probably done on purpose so that normal Americans could feel connected to him.
