I agree. Movies that are disgusting and over-the-top just for the sake of shock value are a complete mockery of film. If you want to see a movie with controversial issues like this, that is actually a good peice of cinema, watch the South Korean film "Oldboy". It'll be the best foreign film you see this year.

The Human Centipede, I found, was not a shock film. It was a psychological horror based on the personality of the evil doctor. I found that they did not overdo the "shit" aspect of it. It was less gross, and more horrifying.

Martyrs is another one of those shock films. It was ok. My friend built it up a lot, but I guess I was expecting much worse because it didn't really shock me. It's not a feel good movie though.

I haven't! I just saw Oldboy recently. I thought the director was very good, the cinematography and soundtrack were amazing. I'll be checking out the other two films very soon. How to they compare to Oldboy? Just as good?
