Topic: Why is everyone so nonchalant about Iran taking down our drone?

Ks !KansasxqvM started this discussion 15 years ago #14,996

Image went missingAt first our military was like lolno Iran doesn't have it. But then...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vorWHmk38yE

They DO fucking have it! Also the drone clearly hasn't been shot down. Iran claims to have hacked the drone and landed it. I'm actually inclined to believe Iran on this one, our military doesn't have a good reputation with things like the truth and the video shows an undamaged drone.

I'm not a warmonger or anything, but wtf?!? You can't just take our shit and laugh about it! No one's mentioned this is basically an open attack on our military by Iran. Am I missing something?

The drone was in their airspace so they claimed it. So they can take your shit and laugh. As much as I hate Iran and all muslims it's not worth going to war because America was getting a bit cheeky

Iran is notorious for propaganda. Also this is a misinformation campaign by America to confuse the Iranians. The drone they captured is filled with technology that will not make sense to the Iranians and only work to throw them off in their pursuit of this type of technology. It's really just basic sabotage with a bit of a twist.

Hey, if they did take control of that drone and fly it back to iran themselves with a cyber attack, then damn, that's pretty bad ass. Not bad ass in that it's a good thing, but bad ass that they can do that shit in real life. That's, like, that unbelievable and stupid shit they think of in bad action movies where the hero and his girlfriend have to run through the deserts of afghanistan to intercept a missile by iPhone app.

Anyway, now they'll just add self destruct mechanisms and shit, which is pretty bad ass when you consider it. Just like on the TV.

I'm just going to say it. America is just looking for a reason to attack Iran. It's the same with the sinking of ships near North Korea. See how close we can get before they do something about it, cry foul and hope the rest of the world backs us so it seems just.

Anonymous H replied with this 15 years ago, 45 seconds later, 6 hours after the original post[^] [v] #263,589

Well, obviously this isn't the kind of forum to have this kind of discussion...but anyway, I'll just briefly say (in the words of Mrs Clinton) this is another "victory for Revolution 2:0" (with reference to the recent Russian protests). America moves one step closer to justifying its inevitable attack on Iran, and thus the final piece of the reshaping-the-political-map-of-the-Middle-East puzzle will be complete.

On the one hand, I am in awe of the American government. How it has managed to do this is a masterpiece of political strategy. I'm not just talking about Iran, I mean Egypt, Libya, Iraq, Afghanistan, Turkey, Syria, Tunisia, etc. Not bad for 10 years' work. That much, I simply doff my cap to. Napoleon, Khan, etc, had nothing on the guys behind Bush and Obama.

But (the only caveat) it could only ever have been possible by a government in control of the dumbest imaginable population. Russia and China could never have done something like this, because their people would have seen it for what it was and put a stop to it. That much I find a bit...I don't know, sad, maybe, because America could have been a good experiment all those years ago. Astonishing government (not necessarily 'good'...just remarkable), but sweet Jesus...the people. Utterly clueless. "My fellow Americans, we're gonna fuck you all in the ass, give you the lowest standard of life in the civilised world while we get fat on the profits of war...and in return, we give you a miniature American flag to wave around. Gawd bless Amurka!"

Anyway, not gonna get involved furhter, because as I said, this clearly isn't the place for it.

It apparently lost contact while operating above neighboring Afghanistan. And when it lost contact, it randomly wandered into Iran airspace.

That's what your military said. Sounds like a textbook cover up story...

> spent billions of tax money for military purposes
> make a top-of-the-line unmanned spy drone
> don't program it to return to the base if it looses contact
> instead "let it wander around searching for a spot to land"

"Much stupider"

Ah, the irony. But in any case, yes, they are. I challenge you to find anyone outside of American who would contend otherwise. In the last 300 years alone (I deliberately stick to that parameter, so as to make it comparable with America) Russia has produced Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, Chekhov, Pushkin, Bunin, Solzhenitsyn, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov, Glinka, Rimsky-Korsakov, Mendeleev, Lermontov, Lomonosov...and in America's corner we have? Your country is just one big supermarket for the rich. Have you not noticed how every great nation in history produces art which celebrates and commemorates its achievements and its insights...whereas the greatest American artists (Fitzgerald, Melville, Allen, etc) are those who mercilessly take the piss out of your country?

Anyway, can't be bothered to get into this, because as we've seen, the only 2 Yank replies so far have been pointless 1-line remarks along the lines of: "Yeah, dude, whatever, I mean, like, ok...". That's me done with the thread, I'll leave you 2 Yanks to working yourselves to the grave to finance your government's acquisition of its own wealth, while you struggle to provide health and education for your families, armed with just enough education yourself to say: Uh huh, yeah man, I'm all like, whatever dude, lol". Peace to all, it's been fun.

Don't you think that Russia and other countries have satellites and shit that can be used to spy on us? Now if we hijacked a Russian satellite just for pointing a camera at us, wouldn't that be perceived as an attack? I know there's a difference between orbit and airspace, but you get the idea. We might not have a right to spy on them (and honestly I think we do considering the shit they're trying to get away with) but they don't have a right to hijack our shit. As Ks pointed out, it may be a provoked attack, but still as attack. It would be like Korea sending a missile at one of our ships for getting too close to their waters. Ks also pointed out that it might not have even been in their airspace. Iranians (their government officials anyway) are total bullshitters. American politicians are bullshitters too, but that's why we know bullshit when we see it.

What is Iran trying to get away with? Protecting themselves from the threat of the US? We have had politicians call for action against Iran. If I was a non-nuclear country, I'd be trying my damnedest to get them.

We've got more than almost everyone except Russia combined (and might actually have more than anyone minus Russia. I actually think we do now. Not that that many is really necessary).

How do you think the American government would respond if Iran flew a drone into American airspace? They would take it down and call it an 'act of war'. You can't just violate another sovereign country's airspace and get away with it, they absolutely have a right to take it down.
> It would be like Korea sending a missile at one of our ships for getting too close to their waters.
If a US ship entered North Korea's territorial waters (violating international law) what's wrong with them sending a missile to destroy it?
