An old red Acer Aspire One.

It needs a processor transplant, and I need a Winblows computer. My father owns an older blue one (same brand and model) and I'm wondering if I can switch out the processors and such. Is it possible?

Why would you switch the processors? Every Acer Aspire One that I've seen has an Intel Atom processor. And they're all pretty slow.

yes if you have a very steady hand and desoldering tools
netbooks tend to have embedded cpus which means no convenient ZIF socket

why not just move your extra RAM to the older netbook?

Aspire One's just aren't good enough to run Windows dude. It's too painful. Put xubuntu on that thing immediately. Then it'll be like a real computer.

This, or a lightweight window manager like Openbox. I'm on a PIII right now and it feels pretty fast with either.

Oh, that would be a problem.

I suppose OP could switch out the boards if he really needed to, but it's probably easier just to use the one that works after moving the ram/data/hard drive/whatever over to his dad's old computer.
