Topic: How many pets do you consider it extreme for someone to own?

Anonymous A started this discussion 15 years ago #14,956

Regardless of law limitations, at what point is one pet too many?

Something like 10 or 15, maybe? It really depends on what sort of pet it is and how much living space they have avaliable. I'm assuming you meant something like a cat or a dog though.

4 "big pets" (cats, dogs, etc.) is probably the max. any more than that and you're being crazy.

Back at home I have over 15 fishies... your system is flawed.

> depends on what sort of pet

I never really saw the appeal of fish myself. I want a pet that I play with and teach tricks.

Fish are a good way of teaching kids responsibility.

But I had some fish as a child and learned nothing from the experience. :/

@262,905 (TheSheep !kJ.A4PF7.k)
Neat.

They did also train a fish to run an underwater obstacle course I think.

Well I think their main purpose is to teach kids how to care about things other than themselves or other humans. I don't know how effective it is at achieving that goal, but at least it is a noble goal.

Mine taught me some neat money management skills. Since I had to pay their food and aquarium equipment out of my pocket, so I had to plan ahead on what to spend my allowance on without risking death of my fishies by starvation.

Other than that, they just blup around all day, but sure look pretty...

Tragically, I did not.

@262,910 (Fake anon !ZkUt8arUCU)
I did care when they died, but I had empathy for animals before I had fish.

Yeah that too I guess. Fish don't really do anything except swim in circles until they die, but at least they can be used to teach life skills.

@previous (Killer Lettuce !!iNo3FkiZx)
Yeah me too, but fish are a cheap way to reinforce or encourage responsibility.

Yeah I guess. I did make a point of feeding them, now that I think back.

Fish are awful pets. They just sit in a tank and fuck around all day. They don't do anything.

You can't even cuddle them.

it depends where you live
if you live on a farm or something you can have like 10 cats without being crazy
