Topic: What grinds my gears: the new YouTube layout.
HaikerensGuide !0VegJ9Jl.Q started this discussion 15 years ago#14,815
Why is the layout fixed-width (width=*px) rather than hybrid-width (width=*% with min-width=*px)? Shouldn't it be made to look nice on tablet and desktop rather than just looking nice on a tablet?
Why is there a Facebook icon? Shouldn't Google try to promote its own shitty social networking site instead of its direct competitor?
Why can't I delete already-viewed videos from the Subscriptions column?
Why did Google force this half-baked layout upon the general public rather than testing this layout by means of an opt-in beta?
Why didn't Google just base the YouTube layout off the current perfectly-good Google layout rather than creating this "unique" shitstain of a Web site layout?
Why is Google ignoring the userbase?
Who thought this redesign would be a good idea?
Why could a fucking junior Web designer such as myself point out the annoying but fixable flaws, when the fucking PAID PROFESSIONALS who likely went to COLLEGE to learn about Web design and programming COULDN'T?

I agree. I hate the tab structure and how each of my subscriptions uploads, are shown individually rather than the last recent couple. Also, why the fuck does it keep suggesting that I subscribe to fat neckbeards whom talk about a Lego game and make weird squealing noises.

Google here. The new layout is purposely designed to appear pleasant on Chromebooks and crappy on all other platforms. We do hope you enjoy it.

The new layout is not all that bad. It's just got some strikingly-annoying flaws that should've been corrected prior to being released. And Google forcing this incomplete layout onto everyone is just really obnoxious.
But hey, with Ray William Johnson banned from YouTube, the From YouTube section is not so bad now.

It's about fucking time they banned that prick. He leeches of other people's vids while keeping all the hits and subscribers for himself.

> You own or have express permission to use and monetize all audio and video content that you upload—RWJ is the only exception. We just can't have more than one retard commenting on every video that get's over 100 thousand hits.

@261,317 (F) > steals other people's content > looks and acts like a total douchebag > begs on the internet > scams people out of money via the internet > uses obnoxious catchphrases and forced memes
AND NOW > breaks the site rules > gets banned from his main source of attention > whines to the owners to bring him back as he finds himself to be a big reason why people even go to the Web site
Hmmmm...
Now who could THAT be?

Commentary falls directly under fair use.

The policy clearly states: "you own or have express permission"
"Express permission" has a very clear legal meaning in copyright law which differs from fair use. Fair use is one type of permission, express permission is another type of permission. So by explicitly requiring express permission, YouTube is intentionally excluding fair use claims.
It's not a question of whether or not RWJ is within his rights, he is. But he is outside the qualification for a YouTube partner.
