Topic: How can I become an attention whore?

Anonymous A started this discussion 15 years ago #14,789

So one of my so called friends--I say so called because as I see it he's quite the attention whore and there's only so much of that I can tolerate--but that's another topic. Anyway, he tells me I don't care enough about what other people think and that's what's been holding me back in life.

I've always been proud of the fact that I'm genuine and not willing to fake it simply to get noticed, but I've been thinking about it a lot and I'm starting to wonder if it's true.

So what can I do to improve?

Tell your friend you don't give a shit what he thinks.

I hear what you're saying but I think he has a point. He pointed out we shower, shave and cut our hair to please other people. Sure we can say we do these things to benefit "ourselves" and there's some truth to that. But there are some things that benefit others more than they benefit us really. I mean working out our brushing our teeth benefits us directly, but certainly not things like dressing well or wearing cologne. This was his point" that the approval of others matters whether we like it or not.

I was only kidding. It pays to play the social game.

Can we please change the strike-out mark-up to three hyphens?

You should have cited me in your headline so I could get here quicker.

Basically, talk about every tiny aspect about your life to people who don't care (yet). Practice on the internet. get something you can be known for. Make sure it can be mocked, though, so you can seem chill when you shrug it off. Include yourself in all sorts of conversations. Slap people who disagree with you.

Don't know about you but I never ever shave, cut my hair, wear cologne nor shower to please others. That's a neat side effect, but I do it cause I hate how I look unshaved, I love the smell of cologne that I wear, I can't stand when my skin/hair is greasy so I shower...and I cut my hair so I look how I like it (benefits myself in a way that I'm more confident when I look good by my opinion, don't give a fuck if that's good for others).

And I never, and I mean never, dress to please others...

Good points all around. Do things to please yourself, and it will be a nice side effect when others are pleased by it as well.

Oh Christ. That's the same reason women blench their assholes. "For themselves." I'm just not delusional enough to convince myself absolutely everything I do is for myself. But keep it up, you're doing a fine job of it.

I'm actually not delusional. I'm as sane as one can be. It's a nice side effect that some of the stuff I do for myself, cause positive reactions from others, but others are never the reason I do that stuff.

Same thing goes for helping others, I don't give a fuck what they think about me when I help them, nor do I ever expect something in return. I do it cause it makes me feel good. Even in such "acts of selflessness", I'm in it cause of 100% selfish reasons, to make myself feel good.

Deal with it. :3

You're right. It's especially problematic now that double dashes are the preferred style for lengthy parenthetical info.
