The front page and the video pages look great but the redesigned channels look horrible.

Then they'd have to update all of the styles whenever a little something gets changed, which gives them more work whenever there's an update and introduces an increased chance for bugs.
A lot more work than ignoring complaints for a week or two until everyone is kinda used to the new thing.

I don't see any radical changes, so that's okay. They seem to fail hardest when they decide they are going to change the defaults everybody is used to in order to "re-invent" the functionality according to some new vision or just start moving important shit around solely for the sake of a new look.
