True, but still it's more likely the Jesus myth was at least based on a real person, at least according to those scholars I'm inclined to believe. Nevertheless, It's blatantly obvious he was simply a man and the church set out to make him much more than this by plagiarizing older "savior" mythologies.

Personally I feel Christ was form fitted to Roman pagan mythology, particularly the Mithraic mysteries which were of Persian, not necessarily Egyptian origins.
Sure it's possible the Mitrhraic mysteries were copied from the earlier Egyptian mysteries, but that's semantics. Point is, the Romans already had a savior mythology, so the Christ myth was a simple matter of plug and play for them.
I don't know what motivations scholars would have for denying the obvious similarities between Jesus and Horus. Maybe because Jesus is supposed to be the son while Horus was the father? Who knows.

We shall see. Generally stories need to hold some kind of sway over people to be considered mythology. Santa Claus is a true modern mythology, because a simple story forces parents to run out and spend more than they can afford. It's demands action and presents consequences to those ignoring this demand. In effect, it has a manipulative power over society at large. This is generally the litmus test for mythology versus ordinary storytelling.
I'm sure stories persuade people all the time, but I doubt not following Harry Potter is quite as offensive as not buying your child a Christmas gift. I could be wrong, but I'm fairly confident that's the case.
