Topic: Yellowed Wii console plastic?

Falco !PZmcClOUDk started this discussion 15 years ago #14,678

hi, I bought my Wii 23 years ago in 2008. I was like 18 at the time. I'm 41 now, and my old nintendo is a slight yellow color and the plastic has become somewhat brittle. Is there a way to get the yellow out with a personal rayclean device or can I save money and use something else? thank you

What the fuck? The Wii came out 19 November, 2006.

well, yes it did. 2006 was 25 years ago and some white plastics yellow with age.
if you look at the old macbooks from that era, nearly all of them are a horrible shade of beige-yellow now

Today's date is 28 November, 2011.
Therefore 2006 was 5 years ago not 25.

There's not much you can do, unfortunately. The yellow color is caused by ultraviolet light breaking down the plastic over time. You could try sanding and then polishing it. The only way to fix it is to prevent it by happening by keeping your Wii covered up when not in use.

Falco's just having another one of his mental time jumps. It'll pass.

actually the first batches of Wiis did have a plastic discoloration issue which was fixed later on in production.
