I figure it's the coolest cat for a dude to own, as he can kick the shit out of any other cats on the block. But I heard they eat and shed like crazy and if you don't let them outside they'll tear your place up for sure. Anyone here have any experience with these kind of cats? Is this true?

I had one that just recently died. He was fine as an indoor cat, but he could be very vocal when he wanted something. The full soft coat looks adorable, but just know that they have a lot of fine, soft fur. Look forward to brushing your cat often and finding cat fur everywhere.

Let me tell you, the tenny tiniest girl cat is going to "tear your place up." Especially if she's not declawed and doesn't get enough food and exercise. That's just what cats do. I can only imagine what the biggest baddest breed of cat must be like.

According to the vet my cats (or at least one of them) is a Maine Coon. He's kind of big for a cat, looks rather 'natural' (bit like a tiger sometimes) and did tear the place up when he couldn't go outside.
He's a pussy though, probably because he's castrated.

I have one, but she's a bit of a runt. Believe what was said about their coats and personality. She sheds like mad in the spring, wants in and out constantly, and will go haywire when she can't go out (like when it's raining.) she used to kill a lot of squirrels, but now that she's older she's a lot better. Still goes nuts though, but doesn't kill as much as she used to. Mostly she's not very affectionate, she'll usually get perterbed if you pick up, pet, or talk to her unless she jumps in your lap and cries for a brushing.
But when she's done expect to be attacked, it's just what happens.
