Topic: Will my Mom finally love me if I become the anti-christ?

Anonymous A started this discussion 15 years ago #14,567

My mom is always going off about how I'm not living up to my potential in life. Even though I'm perfectly happy, not living off the state and not addicted to any hard drugs. Always it's as if of her 3 children I'm the failure. Forget that my sister has been bankrupt twice or my brother is an alcoholic who's been busted for drunk driving twice. But because they were always hopeless and I had potential, somehow I'm the loser one. I've never really been able to make peace with this family dynamic. I know it's there, but I don't understand.

There is some bullshit in the world, huh?

Perhaps she is pushing you because you're the capable one, and she thinks that pushing you might actually result in you making something of yourse- nahhhh

Never mind, OP. Just start drinking heavily all the time so she'll know that you have reached the pinnacle of what you are capable of and stop pestering you.

Sounds like you were here last hope and you've failed to launch.

She's very materialistic. I learned to be happy with the basics at a young age mainly because I didn't want to be like her. I'd love more power and influence sure, but the idea of trading freedom and happiness for things and status just doesn't motivate me the way it would someone like her.

She should be happy that you're happy. Parents that expect stuff are often disappointed.

Well that's another thing. She doesn't really understand how I can be happy. She'll make comments that I'm too much of a free bird or that I need to live in the world the way it is. Sometimes she'll say I'm fooling myself and I'd be better off if I'd compete more. It's gone on long enough now that I'm not really upset or depressed by it so much anymore, but it still fucks with my brain if you get me. I suppose it always will when I'm giving thought to it.

She thinks I'm a retreatist or something. Maybe I am. I'm here using Minichan instead of telling her to fuck off.

Keep in mind that your mom only has good intentions and she means well, she wouldn't say shit if that weren't the case.

Of course she would. Cause if you're really the anti-christ and she doesn't, she'd be dead.
