'Zed' is just as much 'a corruption' as 'Zee' is
in the 17th century there were about ten million different ways to pronounce the letter Z
then some english language guides and dictionaries decided to end all the nonsense and officially made 'Zee' the correct pronunciation
later it was changed again to 'Zed', but then Americans decided 'fuck you assholes' and went back to 'Zee'
