The former head of MI5 has called for Britain's drugs policy to be "at the forefront of national debate". Baroness Eliza Manningham-Buller called for a "non-political conversation" into how the nation tackles its drugs problems. She spoke out after a group of MPs and peers said the Government should consider legalising some substances because the war on drugs is not working. The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Drug Policy Reform, which includes the ex-spy chief, said there were clear examples abroad showing appropriate regulation of drugs can help cut crime. The group cited the Czech Republic and Portugal - where possession and use of small quantities of drugs has been decriminalised - as being better than Britain.

Given the track record of British lawmakers, there is a higher chance of pigs flying than drugs being legalized in Britain.

I doubt it. The two main parties certainly aren't interested in changing much when it comes to drug laws. The Lib Dems are somewhat open to the idea of legalising weed at least, but nobody cares about them.

I think they're calling for all drugs to be legalised.

Quite a few Tory MPs support liberalising drug laws I think.

It would be nice if they at least legalized small amounts of marijuana or something, kooky conservative Americans wouldn't have much of an argument left (not that they have a real argument now).
