Topic: How can I stop using Chrome?

Anonymous A started this discussion 15 years ago #14,421

It renders things so fast it's hard to quit. I've been switching between Firefox and Chrome for the longest time now.

I don't... I don't understand.

@previous (dreamworks !AIy/L67q.s)
Would you consider ie9 to be the best browser?

I had been using Firefox since like the 1.0 days lol, about a year ago I tried Chrome and never looked back. I keep Firefox installed for all the sweet extensions, but Chrome is just so suited for browsing it's tough to beat.

/g/ and /new/ told me Google uses it to spy on you. This has me paranoid.
@previous (Ks !KansasxqvM)
Does it spy on you?
@255,428 (dreamworks !AIy/L67q.s)
I like the new profile system it has now.

You can opt out of sending anonymous info.

I heard that option doesn't matter since they still track your usage.
I have it unchecked.

You can listen to /g/ but not /new/.

Anonymous A (OP) replied with this 15 years ago, 2 minutes later, 8 hours after the original post[^] [v] #255,611

@previous (D)

I try not to listen to /new/ anyway, but is /g/ right here?

Also, how does this sync feature work? Can I export my Chrome bookmarks on one computer to the other?

Anonymous H joined in and replied with this 15 years ago, 40 minutes later, 9 hours after the original post[^] [v] #255,659

@previous (A)
when you add a bookmark on one computer, google's botnet pushes it to your other computers instantly

Anonymous A (OP) replied with this 15 years ago, 2 minutes later, 9 hours after the original post[^] [v] #255,663

@previous (H)
But what if my other computer already has bookmarks in it?
I assume you have to sign in on both browsers on both computers for this to work, right?

What if you have a new profile on one computer?

> botnet

This word scares me. I always hear /g/ use it.

Anonymous H replied with this 15 years ago, 1 minute later, 9 hours after the original post[^] [v] #255,664

@previous (A)
the profiles you connect to the same account with will sync
if you already have bookmarks they will be merged

botnet

Anonymous A (OP) replied with this 15 years ago, 3 minutes later, 9 hours after the original post[^] [v] #255,665

@previous (H)

I didn't log into my other computer's Chrome. :(

It's shut down right now.

I guess I have to wait.

How worried should I be about the botnet?

If you're scared about Chrome being a botnet, use Iron.

Anonymous H replied with this 15 years ago, 19 minutes later, 9 hours after the original post[^] [v] #255,681

chrome gives you the ability to encrypt your data with a custom password, so in theory google won't be able to access your data.

Use Opera like a good Kimmoclone.

I'll switch to Opera when it goes open source. I can't trust my browsing to complete morons who insist on producing a proprietary browser in a marketplace where charging for a browser is impossible. I might need a tinfoil hat for this, but it suggests to me they've got to be hiding something. There's no logic to it otherwise.
