In a new Iowa mailer, Herman Cain says he believes he will be the 2012 GOP nominee because he’s a descendant of slaves who can garner a large share of the black vote, he didn’t inherit a dime, he has traveled the globe for years, and he’s a believer in Jesus Christ.
“The news media and the Republican establishment are stunned!†says the first line of the seven-page mailer. “I am now the front runner in the race for the Republican Presidential campaign and the highly regarded Rasmussen poll shows me defeating President Obama.â€
But then he asks Iowans to tell him which of the other candidates they’re supporting, saying “there are lots of good folks in the race.â€
A “poll†asks people to check a box for a candidate among a list of nine in alphabetical order, including Gary Johnson.
Cain lists several points on why he thinks he will win the nomination, including that “as a descendent of slaves I can lead the Republican party to victory by garnering a large share of the black vote, something that has not been done since Dwight Eisenhower garnered 41 percent of the black vote in 1956.â€
The letter mentions Ronald Reagan three times. “It’s true that both Ronald Reagan and I grew up poor, worked hard, and put our faith in God,†he says.
Cain says his “grassroots team is unmatched in Iowa†and the other early states, but that Mitt Romney and Rick Perry have a financial edge on him.
The final pitch asks Iowans to send a “personal reply to Herman Cain†with a donation of up to $5,000 per couple.

I read somewhere that Chritian Americans would be more willing to vote for a candidate of another religion than an atheist. Seems like atheists are disproportionately hated over there by some people.

Seems a little odd that Christian voters would be more willing to vote for a homosexual or jewish candidate over an atheist though.
Mind you, the survey obviously only asked how they'd vote on the basis of religious beliefs or sexual orientation. If an atheist candidate was good otherwise it could be less of an issue.

Yes, they're very aggressive -- it's a requirement that males in the church spend two years as missionaries ~age 18-20ish, and some women do as well. They're given quotas on how many conversions they need to make.

iirc it has to do with their beliefs about the end times -- that Jesus can/will not return until Christians have fulfilled their duty to witness the gospel.
The part I always enjoyed about JWs is that they believe only 144,000 will make it into heaven, but the church has many, many more members than that.

This is why politics is a sham.
Look, humanity chose priests and prostitutes to check political power long ago. The atheist is unaccountable to this paradigm and unelectable on that grounds. Accountability to an imaginary construct is still far preferable to no accountability at all.
Politically speaking, Cain really is the best candidate if Republicans intend to win. Perry is a bully and a moron. Romney is Obama. Bachman married a gay dude who thinks converting all the other gays will fix him. Ron Paul is really the only honest candidate, but Libertarianism has yet to prove itself as political ideology.
Cain is a real black success story. Not the "I'm a successful black because my mommy was white and I hate white people for educating and raising me" Obama is. Blacks will go for Cain over Obama 2 to 1. Dems will go for Obama and Republicans will go non-Obama. Without Cain, the black vote clings to Obama like flies on shit. The election is pretty much unwinable for Republicans in that case.
Is Cain a clown? Obvious. Is he the most electable clown in a sea of clows? you bet.
