I started a new hardcore game on Minecraft 1.0 and I was wondering what I should do next.

I have a little homestead by the river that goes in circles and I found a ravine. When I went there to look for iron. I lucked out and found a dungeon full of it along with three buckets (the reason I needed the iron so I can make my farm). I also made a bow from the string in there.

I'm not good at building magnificent structures and I love living within the Earth like so.

The top is a wheat and pumpkin farm.

Suggestions on what to do next? Also, I'm cautious now because this is hardcore mode.

I haven't done any mining whatsoever except for the rare occurrence for iron. I like getting my barrings first so I always have a home somewhere in the world. What would the cobblestone wall be for exactly? Aren't I protected by the hills and my farm protected by the fence?

If I find a place for it. The river isn't really that deep. I don't even know what the use of such a room would be.

Jeb isn't the official word
he gets stuff wrong a lot

they decided to make the End instead of the skylands and they used some of the same code but they are different dimensions and skylands is still being worked on

there are surely things about Minecraft that exist only in Notch's mind

I got enough green wool to pitch a tent and decided to go out for some exploring. I know there was a village somewhere near the great plains and lookie at what I just found. Is that a castle? Why are some of the buildings completely blocked by gravel and dirt yet still have inhabitants living within them?

the village generation code assumes it is using a flat area or something

it messes up when there are different elevations

like that building in your screenshot
it looks like it just kept going down until it hit land keeping it's rooftop at the same height as the rest of the village

I'm not really complaining too much about the building height since I think it kind of looks cool and especially with the testificate church there. I guess this would be a monastery? And I guess it does give me work to do beautifying these villages up expect this one since it's built into a mountain range maybe a bit of a challenge. Oh and dying, yes dying would pretty much end my endeavors. If I knew about this seed I wouldn't have selected hardcore.
