When you read the things he did, and about how badly the kids, especially the own victim, must have suffered it seems like he must be a monster.
However, he has friends. People saw him as a genuinely caring person. By labeling him a sick monster it's avoiding the subject. He is a sick man. He is a selfish man. What made him think what he did was ok? Is it because he is a monster who doesn't give a fuck or is he just incapable of empathizing with children? Does he believe the children enjoyed their time together?
I can't imagine he really believed it. One victim would hide from him. He had to have known, but people are often times delusional. He is claiming he is innocent and not a pedophile. I hope he comes around and admits to his crimes do that we can get an honest assessment of his mindset when he was committing these crimes.
I'm curious about how men like him make that jump. I can't envision it. The idea of taking advantage of a child in that way is incomprehensible. My therapist said the biggest hurdle is empathizing with victims, which I already did. I feel like people lack empathy in general. I believe treating sex offenders with mushrooms and other psychedelics would be extremely beneficial to society. Also, weed every day.

What allowed him to do it? Harming people hurts unless you are a sociopath, and he isn't a sociopath. Unless there are degrees. I feel like most people find a way to distance themselves from the pain they cause.
I just can't see how anyone could feel ok with repeatedly pulling a child out of class to rape them.
He is on the level of the guys who have locked girls/boys away as sex slaves.

I don't understand the unwillingness to apply labels to people when they clearly fit.
Yes, he was a monster. I'm sure he has friends and people who thought he was very nice, but it doesn't change what he did. Serial killers have friends. Objectively terrible people have friends. Almost everyone has friends.
I don't care what kind of justifications he had for what he did, it doesn't make him better that he might have been able to convince himself that his victims wanted to be anally raped. Quite the opposite -- it makes him much more dangerous if that's what he thought.

I agree with you. He wouldn't ever stop if he felt like he wasn't doing anything wrong. He'll only try harder to not get caught, or just wait until he gets drunk or stressed. I think thats why the recidivism rate among sex offenders is so high.
