How do you know if a companion is immortal? They just drop if killed? I knew a few in oblivion. You just need tos tart their quest line and keep them around, right? I dont care for that.
I'll stick to my horse for outside (he tanked a dragon for me, but bears fuck his shit up) and whatever I can conjure indoors.
I fly solo mostly. Im pretty good at getting monsters to chase me into an area where only one can get at me at a time.
Or just make them chase me to top of steps and I shout them to their deaths. That wastes possible skill ups though.

Really. Introduction to werewolf are the companions, not sure about vampire. You can probably get it by fighting vampires, or some NPC offers it somewhere.

In oblivion you were also offered the 'gift' during the dark brotherhood quests. That didn't happen for me in Skyrim though they do have a wicked vampire. :(
p.s. I finished the main quest line too, started a new save... Any idea where to find quicksilver or refined moonstone?

Silver weapons hurt you a lot more and I think that's about it. You can only be in wolf form for a few minutes per in-game day, and when you are you can't really interact with anything besides attack stuff. Like, can't pick up items etc. You extend your wolf time by feeding on corpses

You don't turn automatically afaik, it's a power to turn at will. Automatically turning at night would break a fair amount of quests because people run away from werewolves + they want you to meet them at night..

apparently you could contract the disease by being bitten by a werecreature in Oblivion and it's been in the lore since at least Daggerfall. somewhat amusingly, according to the lore, the cure was discovered in Skyrim.
