boof started this discussion 1 hour ago #138,732

figure out the fucking css selector name and use uBlock extension (Adblock would work too) custom filter:

www.youtube.com##div[id="dismissible"]

here are more youtube filters, to get rid of touchscreen-oriented shit off my desktop monitor
www.youtube.com##.ytSpecTouchFeedbackShapeHost.ytSpecTouchFeedbackShapeTouchResponse.ytSpecTouchFeedbackShapeThumbnailSizeLarge.ytSpecTouchFeedbackShapeTriggerEvents
www.youtube.com##.ytSpecTouchFeedbackShapeHost.ytSpecTouchFeedbackShapeTouchResponse.ytSpecTouchFeedbackShapeThumbnailSizeMedium.ytSpecTouchFeedbackShapeTriggerEvents
www.youtube.com##.ytLockupMetadataViewModelMenuButton

and to be rid of a couple of bullshit icons
www.youtube.com##.ytIconWrapperHost.ytContentMetadataViewModelIcon
www.youtube.com##.ytIconWrapperHost.ytContentMetadataViewModelLeadingIcon

This is a tough situation for sure, but if anyone can get out of this, it's you. You just need to find the right extension, or combination of extensions, and everything will be okay.

I would say make your own YouTube, but there’s a reason why YouTube doesn’t have any competitors: hosting videos is expensive.

Now that I think about it, it’s interesting vibe coders haven’t created any alternatives to existing social media platforms. I wonder if that’s related somehow. Because the code itself isn’t enough you need the compute resources which would probably require vc funding to do at scale… but all the vc funding is going to two AI companies. 🤔

Plus moderation, I mean you could have the AI moderate, but social media companies would rather traumatize people in third world countries with gore and CSAM to avoid getting sued by westerners.

OK this pair is doing the job for now on both main page and search results.
www.youtube.com##.ytGridShelfViewModelHost.ytd-item-section-renderer.grid-shelf-with-top-margin
www.youtube.com##.shortsLockupViewModelHost

@previous (boof)
If you don’t already have one, you should make a GitHub for your browser extension ideas. Unless you want to sell them then don’t do that since all the AI companies scrape that.
