I spend my entire paycheck...at Toby Carvery.
the first thing i do on payday is head straight to toby carvery. it’s my little fortnight ritual, and honestly, the day doesn’t feel like payday until i’m walking in and catching that first wave of warm, savoury roast-dinner smell 🤤i go for the beef, especially when it’s tender and pink in the middle, with those crisp-edged roast potatoes that give a little crunch before turning soft and fluffy inside. then there’s the yorkshire pudding.. golden, airy, and just the right shape for catching gravy. have to pile on the vegetables too, because they bring a bit of colour and sweetness to the plate, then pour over plenty of rich gravy. it runs into all the little corners, soaking the potatoes and bringing the whole plate together in one deep, savoury, comforting mouthful. course the best bit is that first forkful. tender beef, crisp potato, soft pudding, and gravy all at once. it’s salty, rich, warm, and filling lol. the kind of food that makes me pause for a second and think, yes, this is exactly what i wanted. ungh!! always take my time with it, enjoying the contrast between the crunchy edges and the soft, buttery middle of the potatoes, and the way the yorkshire pudding gets a little silky where the gravy settles in. by the end, i’m full, happy, and very glad i didn’t talk myself out of going. it might not be an extravagant payday plan, but it’s one i look forward to. get paid, head to toby carvery, and treat myself to a proper roast. for me, that first meal of the month should be generous, comforting, and absolutely covered in gravy 😉
