It's hard to see how it doesn't. Let's say the tech overlords win and everybody is using digital currency, tech companies become more powerful than governments, they create an AI god, etc. We'll be living in a dystopian cyberpunk hellscape at best and might devolve into feudalism at worst. Even if governments reign these guys in with regulation, we'll probably still see tons of people lose jobs, see electric/water bills rise, see government surveillance of citizens go crazy, lots of violent protests everywhere, etc. Even if it all crashes and burns and we go back to some semblance of a pre-chatgpt world it won't matter because we've tied AI into so much of what we do at this point. The economy would be fucked and we could go through another great depression.

It's fucked either way honestly.

On the bright side, I’ve been finding it easier to get software engineering interviews. I have no idea why, it doesn’t make sense given the hype online.

Robots don't drink water

data centers do

Which data center? Most used closed loop cooling and really don't consume water like people think they do.

My best guess is everybody thought computer science meant programming, so then they were like "AI can program what do we need programmers for?" But then eventually they realized engineering software means you engineer software. That’s my best guess, probably wrong.

What skills do CS majors learn besides programming?

inb4 some bs vague answer that an any major could give like "problem solving".

Well it does "use" water, it’s just that it recycles the water in a loop. There are some issues with data centers, but air pollution is more of a problem than groundwater pollution. XAI for example was using gas generators because the power grid didn’t have enough capacity to support their data centers, which goes against environmental regulations, creates noise, etc. They don’t need to be bad for the environment if you generate the electricity through either solar, wind, or nuclear, but realistically, only nuclear is going to get you the amount of energy required for the largest data centers being built out for AI, and realistically building nuclear power plants requires too much coordination, planing, capital, regulatory red tape, etc. so instead they’re just going to use fossil fuels most likely.

System design, cryptography, there’s a lot of stuff.

Right so the increasing water bills are just people's imagination

At this point hummans have earned it. They didn't have to chatgpt everything but they did it anyway. I don't care if the California coastline washes away.

I’m still anon C I just cleared my cookies.

It depends. Just because you could have the water circulate doesn’t mean every data center does that.

The most at risk state is actually Florida btw.
