What don't you gain from it? Why do you think everyone spends so much energy trying to do it? In a social context it's literally the most important thing ever. Why do we have governments? Why do we have money? Why do we have laws? To get people to act a certain way because otherwise they'd probably be doing drugs, getting into fights, killing people, raping people, maybe even eating people, etc. Just look at Haiti right now

I mean that still happens despite having governments. In fact some of those are a direct result from governments and/or individuals imposing their will onto others. Ex. U.S in relation to the world itself.
There’s no benefit to imposing your will on others and gain nothing from it.

Lol i don't need to debate this with you. Everyone else intuitively understands that getting people to do what you want is very valuable

What's not so easy? I'm describing a fact of life not some opinion. People will always try to influence the behavior of others and it's not always aggressive or immediately apparent. It's literally just common sense > huh there are 100 people around me and my voice is getting drowned out but if I get 10 people or even more to say what I'm saying then everyone will hear my ideas!

Exactly, it's a fool who thinks you can only get people to do what you want with a fist or a gun. A dollar, a kiss, or a religious sermon are just as effective

Your first assuming this was a debate. My question was an invitation for discussion and hear opinions.
Your second mistake is believing your opinions are facts. Which are not. Unless you’re the type to be easily swayed by pussy and/or money and willing to jump through hoops because somebody convinced you then idk what to tell you.
Overall I genuinely cannot relate to you anon.
Nobody can get me to do what they want or be on their side.
Especially “A dollar, a kiss, or a religious sermon”
Present me facts thats quantifiable and you’ll have my support. Otherwise it’s all bullshit from people who don’t pay my bills.

I don’t know what it is about you 20 something year olds thats giving you kids this misplaced sense of confidence and intelligence but just because you watched your fav streamer or listen to some rando debate podcast it really doesn’t mean you actually know what your talking about nor is indicative that you possess some superior critical thinking skills.

Lol sure thing bud. If a swat team busts down your door with guns in your face, all they'll hear from you is "yes sir! right away sir! sugar with that coffee, sir?"

Tell me what would I have to do to warrant that? Like you seen many video people not listening to cops when getting pulled over. Some of those people dont listen to the cops and sometimes for good, justifiable reason.
If swat break my door down they better come prepare with a reasonable excuse.

@1,464,780 (A) > t-t-they would never do that though!
They could and they might. The point is as long as you live amongst other sentient beings you'll always have to put up with them trying to influence you. It's a very simple concept. When you think about influence, you associate it with violence or your partner controlling you or social media influencers but influence and power are so much more.

@previous (B) > oh I think this way therefore everybody in the world thinks this exact same thing as me.

Yeah.. maybe for you, you would think that. Perhaps your personal experience has led you to that conclusion but that doesn’t mean it’s true. When I think of influence I don’t think someone trying to get their way over me.
I think about how much of “who they are” do I wanna take with me and what are the things that I would leave behind.

I think this is an interesting thing to think about, why some people feel like they need control over others. It’s unfortunate, but in the world we live in, you should seek power, because if you don’t, your existence is going to be at the whims of you know who. (The politicians and billionaires.) Do you trust those people? If not, the only way to escape them is to usurp them. It would be relatively easy if we actually had collective consciousness to make decisions and work effectively as a group rather than as lonely individual ants.

The issue is (you know who) controls all the algorithms behind the internet and social media so any mass movement likely gets shut down before it even gets started.

The debate obviously went a bit off the rails, but I do think both OP and anon B both have a point, but you were kind of talking past each other. I think OP was hinting by their original post that forcing people to do things is bad, which, yes it generally is unless somebody is trying to hurt somebody and you stop them, then it’s good in that one scenario. Anon B was saying that rationally forcing people to do what you want does have advantages. Those are both true at the same time. It’s like with imperialism in the past. Everybody knows theft is bad, but in the past when there wasn’t much technological progress, the only way to get wealthier was to steal something from somebody else, and that logic extended all the way up to heads of state. If the Roman Empire wanted to grow their GDP (not that they had a concept of GDP, but a vague concept of wealth), there were only two ways to do it: hope and pray the crops grew that year or invade somebody and take their stuff.

I think we might go back to that world, just because since the Industrial Revolution, everything’s been growing on an exponential, population, technology. We’re reaching the population limit and birth rates are declining across the developed world. Technology will get there too, the faster it increases, the faster we hit the limit, then we’re back to the imperialist mentality world.

No that's not the point of what I was saying but honestly I've grown tired of trying to explain my point so sure that's a fine way to rationalize this thread.

I don’t enjoy it but it’s a necessary life skill. I don’t want to be the put upon one at work. And some people genuinely enjoy being told what to do. You run into people who are great at executing but who don’t want to make a decision.
Within my extended family I’m one of the only responsible ones. I ended up being executor for multiple wills and being shit on for it. Now I impose conditions upfront or I don’t participate. You do the same with your wife’s relatives. No your deadbeat cousin can’t move in with us until he finds work. He’s a parasite. He can move into the converted space behind the house for two weeks. He never takes the deal.
For most of us the ability to impose our will is in particular circumstances. If you become a whale in business or politics, it’s very different. And better to be the money man because politicians are puppets.
